QSM: What piqued your interest in joining the beauty industry? And how did you get started?

Schenika: I have always loved everything beauty at a young age. But it wasn't until I was in a domestic violence relationship, and I had to use makeup as a cover up just to go out in public that I had a newfound love for it. It made me feel beautiful when in fact I was at my lowest point in life.

QSM: Can you share the story behind the name of your company? Natalia Me’Gan Beauty

Schenika: Absolutely! The company is named after my granddaughter who is half Dominican and while her American name is Natalie Megan her Dominican name is Natalia Me'gan.

QSM: How beautiful! What makes Natalia Me'gan Beauty stand out in a world filled with makeup and hair brands?

Schenika: My story and what drives me makes me different. I have a greater purpose than just making the next best product. I know what something as simple as an eye color or lip color can mean to someone.

QSM: That is so deep! I felt that on a personal level. And you are absolutely right. Did you wear makeup as a child?

Schenika: Ha I wish... I played in my mom's makeup as a child all the time. Then that one time I thought I was grown at thirteen, I took her Fashion Fair makeup kit to school and called myself doing my face for school pictures and used, of all things, the black eyeshadow which didn't come off with soap and water. Let's just say that didn't end well.

QSM: LOL! I bet it didn’t. What is your favorite part about all that you do?

Schenika: My favorite part is seeing our customers' reactions and pictures when they wear our products. To hear them say how beautiful they look and feel. To hear them give us kudos on our outstanding customer service. This is what it's all about.

QSM: What has been the biggest obstacle you have faced so far as a business owner?

Schenika: Adjusting during this pandemic has been one of the biggest obstacles we have faced thus far.

QSM: What is your typical workday like?

Schenika: Up early and to bed late. Literally from the time I wake up and have my first cup of coffee it's meetings after meetings. Responding to vendor emails, returning phone calls and strategic planning.

QSM: Who are your ideal clients?

Schenika: My ideal clients are beauty lovers overall. People who love luxury products at such an affordable cost.

QSM: Let’s talk about hair. There are tons of cheap hair out there on the market. What are some good ways to tell the difference between good hair and bad?

Schenika: The biggest thing you have to do is make sure you have true human hair and not a human hair mix. You should be able to apply heat to the hair, color the hair and honestly your hair should last over time.

QSM: Outside of Natalia Me’Gan Beauty, what else do you do? Who is Schenika?

Schenika: I am now part of Tava a health and wellness company (beauty and health goes hand in hand). I want people to not only look good but feel good overall. Also, I am now speaking more on domestic violence, and I am always learning and studying the next evolution in the beauty industry.
