Let’s Get To Know Tiffany

I’m size “beautiful” and I love it. There’s just more of me to love. And you know what? I noticed the more I love myself, the more other people love me too.
— Tiffany

QSM: Can you share your journey from being an intern on Hot 99.5's The Kane Show and The Sarah Show to becoming a two-time EMMY Nominated TV Host on FOX45 BMORE Lifestyle? How did those early experiences shape your career trajectory?

Lady T: I grew up in New York and Maryland but for my whole life, radio was my obsession. Since I was 6 years old, I was always tuned into Angie Martinez, Funk Master Flex, etc. in New York. In Maryland I was listening to Flex & Rain, DJ QuickSilva and Angie Ang, Donnie Simpson, Russ Parr, oh my goodness…the GOATS! It was just fire commentary and nothing but hits playing all day. They always made me feel great, alive and hype. All I wanted to do was make other people feel the same way. In 2010, while I was at Bowie State University studying Broadcast Journalism, I started an internship at Hot 99.5 with Kane Show and Kane let me do a funny segment once a week. Then I went to grad school in 2013. Then I became a newspaper reporter in 2014. And then I finally began working at FOX45 as an Assignment editor in 2017. Then I had to pitch my Spilling The Tea celebrity news segment to producers at our station and I went on TV for the first time in 2019. The rest is history. But everything I’ve gone through…the different jobs, the people I’ve met, it was all to humble me and prepare me for bigger and better. I still can’t believe I’m an EMMY nominated TV host. I love it. And I know there is so much more in store for me. I want 6-year-old Tiffany to have her moments in the spotlight and enjoy it. Sit in it and let it sink in that she’s on her way to the top.

QSM: Your career spans across various roles in media, including TV hosting, radio, and reporting. How do you find balance and adaptability in transitioning between these different platforms?

Lady T: When I went to grad school at Full Sail University, the media was changing, and it was tough to keep up. Gone were the days of reporting with gigantic cameras. You can now report LIVE from your iPhone or Android phone. We were taught to become a jack of all trades because broadcast media was transforming into a multitude of platforms where news was being reported and shared every minute. It was “sink or swim”; So, I swam. You adapt by using those platforms to your advantage. Networking and social sharing are a must. People want to connect with you. Be your genuine, true self online and swim honey.

QSM: You've gained recognition for your humorous and quick-witted commentary, notably on TMZ LIVE. How do you approach commenting on a diverse range of topics such as pop culture, sports, politics, and trending issues while maintaining your signature style?

Lady T: My goal is to always leave an impression! So, when I do commentary I want to either make you laugh or just be your entertainment, even if it is just for 30 seconds on TMZ. Sometimes I say exactly what I’m thinking or the first thought that comes to my head, which is typically something hilarious. Commentary is easy for me because I have the gift of gab.

QSM: Your academic achievements are impressive, having graduated as Valedictorian and received the Advanced Achievement Award. How do you believe your education in Communications, Broadcast Journalism, and New Media Journalism has influenced your career in the media industry?

Lady T: The colleges I decided to attend did not disappoint. I’m proud to have attended Bowie State University, an awesome HBCU, for my bachelor’s degree. B-S-U! Then I attended Full Sail University online since it’s in Florida and they taught me how to become a jack of all trades. I was so obsessed with radio, but I was missing out on other avenues such as TV and digital. My education helped take my dreams to the next level.

QSM: Hosting events and emceeing seem to be a significant part of your career. How do you prepare yourself to engage and entertain audiences while hosting various events, from comedy shows to prestigious awards ceremonies like the Capital Emmys?

Lady T: I do love hosting/emceeing events. I always try to ask the event organizers about their audience, what they expect from me and the vibe they want me to bring. I’m high-energy so I don’t turn it down for no one. I’m known to keep the show going and I love playing games with the audience. I try to engage the crowd, so no one notices if there’s a delay or if we’re over on time. Always expect the unexpected from me. But also prepare for a good laugh and a good time.

QSM: You've opened for comedians like KevOnStage and Tommy Taylor Jr. How does your background as a comedian and actress influence your approach to hosting and interviewing guests on shows like "Spilling The Tea W/Lady T"?

Lady T: I’m a goofy, fun, entertaining person so comedy is my #1 skill. Comedy shapes my life and my personality. One of my mentors, Chardelle Moore, told me I was funny and challenged me to do standup comedy. I booked a show for the next week and kind of bombed but I kept going. It was thrilling and a rush to be up there trying to make a room full of people I don’t know, laugh. I wanted to try again and again until I got it right. Opening for talented comedians such as KevOnStage and Tommy Taylor Jr. was a dream come true. I also incorporate comedy into the segments I do on TV. Honestly my goal is just to make people smile and laugh. Sadly, I don’t get to do standup comedy as much anymore because my schedule has gotten hectic with hosting and acting. But it is something I would love to get back into.

QSM: You've not only worked in front of the camera but also held roles as an Assignment Editor and Content Creator for FOX45 News. How does your experience behind the scenes enhance your on-screen presence and storytelling abilities?

Lady T: Honestly, I had to learn how to work behind the scenes before I got in front of the camera. A lot of great TV hosts and personalities started off working as an assignment editor in news. It’s known as the most thankless job. But once you learn how TV works and how to book guests and create digital content, being in front of the camera is a breeze. Also, I have to be two different people at my job, which can be tough at times. I’m a bit more serious as an assignment editor. But as an on-air talent/c-host I get to be funny and really use my personality. I wear multiple hats at my job, but I juggle each job by drinking an iced caramel latte. And lots of prayer…LOLZ!

QSM: Your involvement in motivational speaking at colleges and universities is inspiring. How do you draw from your own experiences to motivate and guide aspiring individuals who want to pursue careers in journalism, entertainment, or other creative fields?

Lady T: I try to be brutally honest with these students about the entertainment/news industry. I give them information that I wish someone would have given to me when I was young, dumb and in college. My mindset in college was “I’m going to be great and famous.” I’m not sure why I thought it was going to be easy. You really have to work hard to achieve your goals and listen to guidance from others. The easiest thing to do is give up. But you should give yourself a fighting chance. Also, I was very afraid to fail and be told “no”. It made me depressed and I fought the spirit of “giving up.” But now I am grateful for every “no” because what God has for me is for me. And if I hear no then that opportunity is not for me or it’s not the right time or season yet to have it. “N-O” stands for “No Offense” so take no offense, pick up your face and move on with grace. Don’t stop until we make the dream come true.

QSM: As a plus-size woman in the media industry, you've broken barriers and become a prominent figure. Can you speak about your journey in navigating the challenges and opportunities that come with representing diversity and body positivity on-screen, and how you've used your platform to empower others?

Lady T: Listen…I’m size “beautiful” and I love it. There’s just more of me to love. And you know what? I noticed the more I love myself, the more other people love me too. The first step is to love yourself. Love who you are. Every curve, every drop of cellulite and imperfection…you betta love it. I’ve dealt with self-hate in high school and sometimes in college. I’ve had people tell me my dreams & goals weren’t achievable because of my weight. Words can hurt and sting a little…but making those people eat their words is even sweeter. Once I changed my surroundings, my mindset and my inner circle of people, I realized I wasn’t the problem, and neither was my weight. They were the issue. So, I hope I inspire other people in the plus community to love the skin they’re in and shine brighter than the sun. It’s great to see the curvy community is being accepted more often now in society, because we’re bold, lovely and here to stay.

QSM: We will also be seeing you at the Full Figured Industry Awards as you will be one of the red carpet hosts. Could you tell us about your anticipation for this event and how you plan to bring your unique style and perspective to the red carpet, particularly in celebrating and highlighting the achievements of the full-figured community within the fashion and entertainment realms?

Lady T: I’m on ALL the time and I bring the energy, I can’t wait to bring my bubbly personality to the red carpet and the award ceremony. But I’m truly looking forward to seeing all of the fashion and the nominees. Plus size fashion has really elevated. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and the FFIA’s puts it center stage…AS IT SHOULD BE!

QSM: Final thoughts?

Lady T: I’m still acting, hosting events and on my grind. I will be starring in a new series called “Enigma” coming out in 2024. In my spare time I love trying out new restaurants and fun hangout spots and then posting it on social media. Follow me at @myfairladyt for more.
