Finding Ashley Stewart 2017

Finding Ashley Stewart 2017! What can I say other than you should have been there? But for the people that could not make it, allow me to paint the picture for all that you missed.

For one, you already know that you missed Boris Kodjoe and all of his sexiness hosting the show. Nicole Ari Parker was also in the building looking as beautiful as always. I tell you that woman seems to never age; once I actually get to sit down and chat with her I am going to find out her secret and share it with you all. But then I guess it wouldn’t be a secret anymore right? Ok maybe I won’t share it then. LOL

Ashley Stewart toured multiple cities in search for that one Diva who embodies everything that the Ashley Stewart brand stands for: kindness, perseverance, resilience, confidence, and empowerment.  Six women (Sheila Lopez, Samaria Roberson, Shadawn McCants, Ashley Walker, Aysha Williams and Theresa Royal) were chosen from thousands to compete face to face on September 16, 2017 at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. The ladies gave their all; they strutted their curves on stage and answered questions from the judges, but ultimately it was Theresa Royal who was named Ashley Stewart 2017.

And speaking of judges, Ashley Stewart called on some of the best of the best. Founder of Full Figured Fashion Week Gwen DeVoe, NFL Legend Carl Banks, Miss USA 2013 Erin Brady, Music Executive Vivian Scott Chew, MLB and Founder of MVP Collections Mo Vaughn, and WNBA Legend Kym Hampton.

They didn’t skimp on the entertainment either. En Vogue gave us a mini concert (I need to speak to them about their age reversal secret as well), Kierra Sheard did what she always does, and that was bring the house down! I have been a fan of Amanda LaCount for a little while so it was nice to actually see her perform in person. I was pleased with the performances by the Brooklyn united Drumline (those are some talented young men) and the Xinos Step Team (those young ladies still got me stepping; well my version of it anyway lol).

In addition to crowning Ashley Stewart 2017, the event awarded a total of $20,000 in scholarships to North Carolina A&T student University winner Lydeah Kearse, as well as Medgar Evers College Student winners Kedeisha Freeman and Latchmie Marajh. Isn’t that amazing!!!!

Iyanla Vanzant was also in the building encouraging us as she always does.

It was a great event and I hope I painted a good enough picture to make you want to come next year.

Oh did I happen to mention that Ashley Stewart is one of my favorite stores? I guess you can now see why.
